Lake of Bays Cottages for Sale

Lakey, the Lake of Bays Monster

Lake of Bays cottages for sale are desirable properties and often sell quickly.  Lake of Bays is located in Muskoka, just 20 minutes east of Huntsville. The lake is the second largest lake in the Muskoka watershed. Lake of Bays is fed by rivers from Algonquin, and drains into the south branch of the Muskoka river, ultimately ending up in Lake Muskoka and Georgian Bay.  Named for its many bays, the lake offers many kilometers of boating and swimming. Lake of Bays has reported sightings of a large prehistoric creature which people claim to have seen periodically beginning in 1959.  Named Lakey in a 2014 naming contest, the “monster” even has his own Facebook page.

Rich in history, the Lake was once serviced by grand steamships which delivered people and supplies to cottages around the lake.  Today you can tour the lake on the SS Bigwin which has been restored and now docks in Dorset.

The roads around the Lake are hilly and winding, travelling through the rock cut showing off the beauty of the area,  making them an ideal trail for bikes – In fact the Muskoka Ironman makes use of these roads during the race.
